High-Bandwidth Coherent OFDM-Nyquist-TDM Transceiver With Low-Bandwidth Electronics

We present a broadband coherent orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transceiver based on sampling and low bandwidth electronic analog signal processing. Wideband superchannels, without any guardband are aggregated from OFDM channels in the time domain by Nyquist sinc-pulse sequences with rectangular bandwidth. Therefore, method is called OFDM-Nyquist-time division (TDM). Simulation experimental results will be discussed for optical systems. However, some modifications same principle can used wireless or THz signals. In simulations, we show 40 GHz bandwidth, 160 Gbps, 16-QAM, 128 x 5-Nyquist-TDM 4 electronics digital-to-analog (DAC), analog-to-digital (ADC) conversion digital processing, including Fourier transform. For experiment, verify processing of 24 48 Gbps QPSK, 512 3-Nyquist-TDM transmitter receiver. Since proposed drastically decreases rate requirements DAC ADC, it promising alternative future communication systems highest possible symbol rate.
